Sister Marjorie (Stella Maris) Buttner, OP

Sister Marjorie (Stella Maris) Buttner, OP, has ministered in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Montana. Her ministry has been dedicated to teaching and archival work. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister Marjorie taught at Visitation High, Chicago, 1953-1963. In the Diocese of La Crosse, she taught at Newman High, Wausau, 1963-1967. In the Diocese of Helena, Sr. Marjorie taught and was a counselor at Anaconda Central High, Anaconda, 1967-1969. In the Diocese of Madison, Sr. Marjorie taught and was a counselor at Edgewood High School, Madison, 1969-1983, and served as the congregation archivist at the motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 1986-2005, for which she was renowned in archival organizations. Her ministry has been dedicated to teaching, providing pastoral care, and serving as prioress at St. Dominic Villa in Iowa and Wisconsin. In the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Sr. Marian taught at Holy Rosary, Minneapolis, 1986-1993. Sister Jo Ann (Mary Augusta) Dold, OP, has ministered in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Her ministry has been dedicated to teaching, scripture, and music. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sr. Jo Ann taught music and piano at St. Cajetan, Chicago, 1953-1956, and St. Brendan, Chicago, 1962-1967. In the Diocese of Green Bay, she taught at St. Peter, Oshkosh (now Blessed Sacrament), Oshkosh, 1956-1958 and 1971-1978, and St. Mary, Appleton, 1969-1971. She served as liturgist and musician at St. Peter Parish, Oshkosh, 1978-1981; on the Menominee Indian Reservation at St. Anthony Parish, Neopit, and St. Michael Parish, Keshena, 1981-1984; and Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, Hortonville, 2004-2005. She coordinated a bible study group at the Bridge-Between Retreat Center, Denmark, 2005-2018, and volunteered teaching piano at St. Clare Parish, Wrightstown, and with the Coming Home Project, Brown County Family Services. In the Diocese of Peoria, Sr. Jo Ann taught at St. Mark, Peoria, 1958-1962. In the Diocese of Madison, she taught at St. Raphael, Madison, 1967-1968, and Queen of Peace, Madison, 1968-1969. She served as liturgist at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 1984-1988, and volunteered in the Archives with the Mazzuchelli Collection, Sinsinawa, 2019-2022. In the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Sr. Jo Ann ministered as coordinator of liturgy at St. Albert the Great Parish, Minneapolis, 1988-1990. In the Diocese of New Ulm, she served as campus minister at Southwest State University and coordinator of adult formation at Holy Redeemer Parish, both Marshall, 1990-1997. She ministered as liturgist and with music at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Wheeling, 1985-1994. In the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Sr. Marian taught at St. Thomas Aquinas, Milwaukee, 1956-1960; St. Matthew, Milwaukee, 1968-1974; and St. Rose, Milwaukee, 1972-1974. She served as liturgist at St. Jude Parish, Wauwatosa, 1994-1997; as choir director at St. Clement Parish, Sheboygan, 1997-2010; in pastoral care and music at St. Mary’s Nursing Home, Milwaukee, 1998-2002; and as a volunteer tutor at the Adult Learning Center, Milwaukee, 2010-2018. Sister Mary Joan (Francis Jerome) Gibson, OP, has ministered in Illinois, Iowa, Oklahoma, New York, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Her ministry has been dedicated to teaching, administration, and serving as provincial councilor for the Northeast Province of the Sinsinawa Dominican congregation. In the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown, Sr. Mary Joan served as principal at Lock Haven Catholic School, 1988-2007. In the Diocese of Madison, Sr. Mary Joan served as assistant prioress at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, 2008-2011, and later helped plan a program at the motherhouse, Sinsinawa, where she and other Sisters taught English to Catholic Sisters from Vietnam. Her ministry has been dedicated to education and social outreach, mainly in the South. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sr. Sheila taught at St. Giles, Oak Park, 1953-1960, and Sts. Faith, Hope, and Charity, Winnetka, 1968-1972. She served as provincial councilor for the Southeast Province of the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa while living in Chicago, 1984-1988. In the Diocese of Rockford, Sr. Sheila was coprincipal and taught at Nativity BVM, Menomonee, 1979-1980. In the Diocese of Jackson, she volunteered with the Glenmary Missions, Houston, 2006-2008. In the Diocese of Madison, Sr. Sheila helped open and taught at St. Dennis, Madison, 1960-1963, and St. Cecilia, Wisconsin Dells, 1963-1968, where she was also principal. In the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, she was principal and teacher at Father Benedict Justice School, Kansas City, 1980-1984. Sr. Sheila is living in community with her Dominican Sisters. Her ministry has been dedicated to working to improve the lives of women and children through education, housing, and neighborhood organization. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sr. Ann taught at St. Basil, Chicago, 1953-1959; St. Vincent Ferrer, River Forest, 1959-1961; Visitation High School, Chicago, 1963-1969; and St. Thomas the Apostle High School, Chicago, 1969-1975. In the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, she served the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa as provincial councilor of the Northwest Province, 1980-1984, and was the director of Catholic Charities, Minneapolis, 1988-1990, and codirector of the Dominican Center for Women, Minneapolis, 1990-1994. In the Diocese of Madison, Sr. Ann taught English at Edgewood College, Madison, 1976-1980. In the Diocese of Sioux Falls, she was principal at St. Joseph Cathedral Grade School, Sioux Falls, 1984-1986. In the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Sr. Ann cofounded the Dominican Center for Women, Milwaukee, and ministered in a leadership role for the center, 1990-2010, and continued to volunteer there until 2014.
