Human Trafficking Conference

In September, Maureen McDonnell, OP; Eileen Brynda OP; and Associate Katherine Lawler (pictured at right, from left) attended the Alliance to End Human Trafficking (AEHT) conference in Skokie, IL. This group has recently been renamed to AEHT as in the past it was known as U.S. Sisters Against Human Trafficking. “The focus for 2024 is human trafficking and migration, child labor, dignity of work for asylum seekers, and understanding why people migrate,” said Katherine. “It is important to look at the international issues driving migration. We must work together and share power and responsibility to achieve a shared purpose. We must build trust in relationships and listen from a place of interest, not judgment.” Topics presented on included child sexual abuse and human trafficking, public policy and federal legislation, trauma-informed care, faithful advocacy, child labor, LGBTQIA and human trafficking, and collaborating to end human trafficking.
